Frequently Asked Questions
I've trained well over 10,000 dogs, and most owners see a real difference instantly — often within the first few minutes of a session. Here's what to expect before you book.
Getting Started, Booking & Payment
How do I get started?
It starts with a 15-minute phone evaluation. I ask about your dog's history, behavior, and what you've already tried, then tell you honestly whether K9 Calm is the right fit — and if it is, we schedule your training on that same call.
Do you require payment up front?
Yes. Full payment is required up front to secure your spot on my training schedule. I don't hold schedule slots without payment, since spots are limited and go quickly.
How many sessions will I need?
I schedule 3 sessions to start every new client. From there, I schedule any additional sessions your dog needs one at a time, based on real progress — not a pre-set package you have to commit to all at once.
What if my dog needs more than 3 sessions?
That's normal for more serious cases, and it's already built into how I work. I charge per dog, not per session, so if your dog needs more time to get it right, we schedule the next session as needed.
Do you offer refunds if it doesn't work?
I guarantee real, lasting results — my process is built around actually fixing the behavior, not just running you through a fixed number of sessions. We'll talk through expectations honestly on your phone evaluation before you pay anything.
Do you do a free in-home consultation first?
No — the first step is always a 15-minute phone call, not an in-home visit. That's where I learn about your dog and confirm we're a fit before anything is scheduled.
Results & Experience
How experienced are you?
I've personally trained well over 10,000 dogs. Every case — from routine to extreme — goes through me directly, not a rotating pool of trainers.
How fast will I see results?
Most clients see a real difference instantly, often within the first few minutes of the very first session. Full, lasting results build over your scheduled sessions, but you shouldn't have to wait weeks to see your dog respond differently.
Is training done in my home?
Yes. Sessions happen in your home and the real-world settings where the behavior actually shows up, so progress carries over into daily life instead of staying inside a training room.
Will I need to keep training after sessions end?
You'll be trained right alongside your dog. My goal is for you to walk away with the skills to maintain the results yourself, and I'm here for follow-up sessions if anything comes up later.
Aggression
My dog has already bitten someone — can you still help?
Yes. Bite history is common among the dogs I work with. Tell me exactly what happened on your phone evaluation, and I'll give you an honest read on the case.
Is aggressive dog training safe for my other pets and kids?
Yes — managing your household safely during training is built into every plan, and I'll walk you through exactly how to handle your dog around family and other pets.
Will the aggression actually go away, or just get "better"?
I guarantee real, lasting change — a dog that's genuinely safer and calmer around what used to set them off, not just quieter for a few days.
Reactivity
Will my reactive dog ever be able to be around other dogs or strangers?
Most reactive dogs reach a far calmer, far more manageable state with the right training. I'll give you an honest assessment of your dog's specific case on your phone call.
Do you train reactivity on real walks, or just in a controlled setting?
Real walks, real triggers — your actual neighborhood and routine — because that's what makes the results hold up once training is over.
How is reactivity training different from leash pulling training?
Leash pulling is a manners issue; reactivity involves an emotional response to specific triggers, like other dogs or strangers. If your dog has both, I address them together in one plan.
Leash Pulling & Walking
My dog is really strong — will training actually stop the pulling?
Yes. Strength isn't the real issue — it's habit, and habits can be retrained regardless of your dog's size or drive.
Do I need special equipment to stop my dog from pulling?
I'll recommend and personally teach you whatever's right for your specific dog — there's no generic, one-size-fits-all gear requirement.
How fast can leash pulling actually be fixed?
Most owners feel a difference on the leash within the very first session.
Resource Guarding & Fear
Is resource guarding dangerous?
It can escalate over time, especially around kids or other pets, which is exactly why addressing it early with the right approach matters.
Will you work with a dog that growls or snaps when guarding?
Yes — safely reading and working with guarding behavior is a core part of what I do every week.
Can a fearful or anxious dog really change, or just be managed?
Most fearful dogs make real, lasting progress with the right plan. I'll give you an honest assessment of your dog's specific case on your phone evaluation.
General / In-Home Training
Do you work with any breed or size of dog?
Yes — I work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and histories, including dogs that other trainers have turned away.
What areas do you serve?
I go anywhere in the Dallas–Fort Worth area for in-home training — no matter where you're located in the metroplex.
How is K9 Calm different from a group class or an app like Rover?
You work directly with me — the same specialist — from your first phone call through your last session. Not a different contractor each time, and not a generic video program.
My dog has already been through other training without success — can you still help?
Yes. Dogs that didn't get lasting results from another trainer or program are exactly the kind of case I specialize in.
